Member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) have reached an agreement with New Delhi to explore the possibility of creating a free trade agreement between the EEU and India, announced Yury Ushakov Assistant to President Putin.

Member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) have reached an agreement with New Delhi to explore the possibility of creating a free trade agreement between the EEU and India, announced Yury Ushakov Assistant to President Putin.

“The Indian side, having expressed interest in building relations with the Eurasian Economic Union, has agreed on the formation of a joint group to study the possibility of concluding a free trade agreement between the member states of the EEU and India,” said Mr. Ushakov during a media briefing in Moscow.

In May, the Eurasian Economic Union and Vietnam signed an agreement establishing a free trade zone. This is the first international treaty on preferential trading terms that the EEU has concluded with a third party.

After this event, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev noted that this precedent opened the way for the standardization and preparation of similar agreements with other countries, in particular, with those located in the Asia-Pacific Region. He noted that currently about 40 countries have expressed interest in holding negotiations with the EEU to conclude such treaties.
