Defence Ministers of Russia and India will discuss co-production of the fifth generation fighter aircraft (FGFA) and mini-missile BrahMos during the Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu’s visit to New Delhi, the ZeeNews TV Channel reported on Monday.

“The ministers will discuss the progress made so far and the prospects for additional cooperation,” said a source in the Indian Defence Ministry.

According to the TV channel, the head of the Defence Ministry will visit New Delhi on January 20-22. Mr. Shoigu will hold talks with his Indian counterpart Manohar Parrikar. The Russian Minister will also chair the 13th meeting of the Russian-Indian Intergovernmental Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation.

According to the TV channel, quoting official sources, the Indian side has already reported that the basic prototype of a fifth-generation fighter aircraft has already flown on a few test missions, and signing of a contract for full-scale research and development would be a waste of time and resources. The final contract for research and development, which was to be concluded in 2012, has not been signed yet.

According to the publication in the Financial Express, the two ministers may also discuss the purchase of a new batch of Su-30MKI combat aircraft.
