Shahrukh Khan, called the ‘Badshah’ or ‘King’ of Bollywood and a leading star of Indian cinema, will be part of the film ‘Viy-3,’ film producer Alexey Petrukhin told TASS.
“The film, ‘Journey to India: on the threshold of immortality’, also known as ‘Viy-3’, has now acquired a new partner, the famous Shahrukh Khan, who will be working both as an actor and as a producer of the film.
Ranbir Kapoor, grandson of the legendary Raj Kapoor, “will also continue to work on this film,” said Petrukhin, on the sidelines of the Days of Russian Cinema, being held in Mumbai, India.
‘Viy’, directed by Oleg Stepchenko, and loosely based on the novel by Nikolay Gogol, became the highest grossing Russian film of 2014. After which a decision was taken to make a series of sequels. At the moment, producers are working on editing the tapes of “Viy-2. Travel to China”. The action on the third film will be moved to India, said Petrukhin.
“Currently, we have decided on a natural setting for the filming, and are now looking at different scenic spots in India. The film’s budget is set at $40 million, which is quite a significant sum for Russia, and for India, so the joint efforts of cinematographers was quite appropriate,” said Petrukhin.
Khan, one of the Hindi film industry’s great success stories, has a reasonably large fan following in Russia and some former Soviet republics, with many fan pages dedicated to him on vkontakte.ru, the most popular social networking site in the region. Young fans repeat his dubbed dialogues in his superhit movies like ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge,’ ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ and even ‘Devdas.’
Part of the filming of this Russian-Indian film will be done in Bollywood. The film should be ready for release on October 4, 2018.
The second episode of the franchise features the English traveller Jonathan Greene, who was commissioned by Peter I to create maps of the Russian Far East, and finds himself in China.
The film is expected to be full of stunts and special effects. The central character will meet magicians embodying various natural elements and even Loon Wang, the king of all dragons.
Among the actors playing roles in the second movie are Sitkhun Yao, Zhang Lansin, Jason Fleming, and Anna Churina. The role of one of the main characters will be performed by Jackie Chan, the legendary Asian actor and director. His company, the Jackie Chan JCE, is actively involved in making the film.
The ‘Days of Russian Cinema’, organized by the Russian Ministry of Culture, Russian Union of Cinematographers, the production company Sinemarus and National Right-Holders Support Fund, with the support of the Russian Centre of Science and Culture and the Russian Consulate in Mumbai, will include the screening of the films: The ‘Queen of Spades’ by Pavel Lungin, ‘The Hammer,’ by director Nurbek Egen, ‘Good Boy,’ Oksana Karas, ‘Friday,’ by Yevgeny Shelyakin, among others.
