‘Survive the day’ – Game of Thrones season 7 hype hits Russia

The seventh season of the most expensive TV series in history, Game of Thrones, premiered July 16 on HBO, and fans in Russia watched the first episode at 4 a.m.

So many wanted to watch the premiere that the Russian online TV service, Amediateka, was overloaded and faced some technical issues (HBO's website also struggled with the huge traffic). 

Anyway, those who truly wanted to watch the premier managed to do so. On Monday morning social media were full of spoilers and enthusiastic comments by Russian fans. This got the attention of even those who were long indifferent towards all the carnage over the Iron Throne.

Ed Sheeran’s appearance as one of the characters left the Russian fan army in ecstasy, despite the fact that many knew about this. He was not invited for millions of fans, but rather, he was invited to make Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) happy on set.
