Russian of the Year awards 2013

The 7th Russian of the Year Awards celebrating the achievements of citizens of the Russian Federation will take place in the Conference Hall of the Presidential Administration on June 11, 2013, the eve of Russian Independence Day.

The aim of the ceremony is to publicly acknowledge outstanding figures in the government, economy, sciences, culture, arts and sport – the people who through their hard work, intelligence and talent are carving out the history of new Russia.

Winners of Russian of the Year Awards are decided by the Expert Council, led by the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia, Alexander Torshin.

This year’s Russian of the Year Award winners are: People’s Artist of Russia, Artistic Director, conductor and member of the Moscow Soloists chamber ensemble, Yuri Bashmet; chief transplant specialist at the Ministry of Health and Social Development, Sergey Gotye; Russian Academy of Sciences member and director of the Astro Space Center, Nikolai Kardashev; Russian Red Cross chairman, Raisa Lukuttsova; head coach of the Russian synchronized swimming team and vice president of the Russian Synchronized Swimming Federation, Tatyana Pokrovskaya; the Chelyabinsk Institute of Railway Transport student, who saved ten people from drowning in a sinking hopper bus, Pavel Rogozhin; and People’s Artist of Russia and Artistic Director of the U Nikitskikh Vorot Theatre, Mark Rozovsky.

The list of past winners is no less impressive: Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia, Alexy II; Russian Academy of Sciences member and Nobel Prize winner, Vitaly Ginzburg; Moscow State University rector, Viktor Sadovnichy; People’s Artist of Russia and film director, Nikita Mikhalkov; International Charitable Fund for Children in Disasters and Wars chairman, Leonid Roshal; People’s Artist of the USSR, Galina Vishnevskaya; three-time Olympic champion, Irina Rodnina; People’s Artist of the USSR, founder, Artistic Director and conductor of the Moscow Virtuosi chamber orchestra, Vladimir Spivakov; and Russian writer and social and political activist, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, among others.
