Best Russian language teachers from 14 countries to meet in Moscow

The final round of the Second Annual International Competition for Best Foreign Teacher of Russian Language will take place 22-24 October in Moscow. Instructors from over 14 countries of Europe, Asia, and the Americas are to take part.

Approximately 300 instructors from 41 countries participated in the first qualifying round of the competition. The competition’s finalists were determined from that round.

Among the finalists are professors from universities in the USA, the Czech Republic, China, Georgia, and Vietnam, as well as school teachers from Mongolia, Germany, Israel, Italy, Bulgaria, and course instructors from Poland, Indonesia, Bulgaria, Jordan, and Serbia.

The competition’s final events are aimed at supporting overseas Russian language instructors and reinforcing the standing of Russian on the international level.

In addition to the competition itself, the final round’s program includes a presentation on the foremost accomplishments in teaching Russian as a foreign language, as well as a round table discussion on the experience of and potential for partnership in teaching Russian as a foreign language. Round table participants will produce a list of recommendations on measures for supporting teachers of Russian abroad.

The competition will close with an awards ceremony on 24 October in Catharine’s Palace in Moscow. The competition’s organizers and partners have prepared valuable prizes for the winners.

The competition is being held by the initiative of Rossotrudnichestvo as part of the 2011-2015 federal program in support of the Russian language. Media support for the competition is being provided by the communications agency AGT.
