Japan Earthquake

On March 11, Northeastern Japan was hit by an earthquake measuring 8.9 on the Richter scale. The earthquake caused a tsunami, which reached more than 10 meters high in some areas. The confirmed death toll has exceeded 900, and more than 10,000 are missing and feared dead.


Japan has also suffered more than 100 aftershocks, including one with a magnitude of 6.2 with an epicentre located about 180 kilometers from Tokyo.

Over 70 nations including Russia have sent humanitarian missions to Japan.
