In 2013, for the first time, Russia was ranked as one of the top three destinations worldwide for foreign direct investment. The county attracted $94 billion in FDI in 2013, up 83 percent from 2012, according to UN figures. Experts believe Russia's leap from 9th to 3rd place in the ranking is due to a one-off factor – the acquisition of TNK-BP by Rosneft. Russia’s chances of maintaining or increasing this position this year depends mostly on the interest of foreign companies in setting up local production facilities to serve the Russian market.
