Cleaning of the Arctic

The northern territories of the Soviet Union were formerly used as military bases or burial grounds for nuclear and chemical waste. Over the next eight years, the Russian government is to spend around 8.5 billion rubles ($248 million) on an operation to clean Franz Josef Land, an uninhabited archipelago in the Arctic Ocean.
