Soviet Underground photos went under hammer at Sotheby's

Five works by Alexei Titarenko, including this one, are valued at £6000-8000. Thanks to such collections, Russian and post-Soviet photography is becoming increasingly popular.

Art photographs from the former Soviet Union were auctioned at Sotheby's in London. The collection of 155 lots of "underground" works by photographers in the former Soviet Union offers a glimpse into the everyday lives of people during that period. 34 of the lots were sold for a total of £313,250.
