People and clocks of the Peter and Paul fortress from Russia Beyond The Headlines on Vimeo.
Peter and Paul fortress towers above Russia’s northern capital, St. Petersburg – the golden steeple very recognizable above the city. The melody its chimes plays is always on time, and the clock is never a second late, because of the devoted people who work there.
Each day at 10 am, the clock keeper Andrey Kudrayvtsev is up on the belfry to make sure all the clock’s parts are in working order. Nikolai Kuchinsky and four other retired officers make up the artillery team of the Peter and Paul fortress.
A cannon fires simultaneously when the clock strikes 12 to inform the city’s citizens that noon has arrived.
