Acclaimed British bands open Russian summer festival season

Summer came to Moscow with the loud sound of guitars, drums and synths. Three of the hottest British rock bands delivered unforgettable live performances at Hermitage Garden in the Russian capital's centre last Saturday in coincidence with the first day of summer.

Citizens!, whose debut album was produced by Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand, Leeds University graduates Alt-J and the nerds of electronic music Hot Chip opened the summer festival season in Russia, performing at the Ahmad Tea Music Festival 2013.

Citizens! took the stage first, making the crowd scream and shout - people couldn’t stop dancing to their energetic, upbeat songs.

When Alt-J appeared on stage the atmosphere became very spiritual, with the lead singer almost whispering into the microphone.

Hot Chip, a band that has been around since 2000, was the headliner of the festival. During the show band members repeatedly switched musical instruments, producing an incredible mixture of acoustic and electronic sounds.
