Aquabike gets urban: International Cup in Saint-Petersburg

Saint-Petersburg has hosted a European jet ski championship since 1998. More than 80 athletes competed this year from all over Russia. An amateur competition called “Jet Ski Day” was also held.

From Brooklyn to St. Petersburg, you can find jet skiers or “aqua bikers” jumping and flipping several feet out of water like some engine-driven dolphin. St. Petersburg is perfect for this sport, with the magnificent Neva River opening out to the Baltic Sea. The water can also provide a nice challenge for athletes when the weather gets stormy and the waves grow choppy.
