The Strogino area of Moscow hosted its third edition of Red Bull Flugtag last weekend. On it's previous appearance here the event attracted 106,000 spectators and a bumper turnout is expected again as the event of the year hits town.

The Flugtag contest, translated from German as "flight day" brought costumed contestants from as far away as St. Petersburg to try their skills as aircraft designers and aviators.Teams build a flying apparatus with three criteria in mind: how far it will fly, creativity and artistry. On contest day teams are also judged by a short performance on the takeoff ramp.

Aircraft must have a wingspan of no more than 10 meters, and a fuselage not wider than four meters. The maximum flying weight cannot exceed 200 kg.
