Why Russian men value their beards?

RBTH asked random bearded men what they would do if a tax on beards was introduced today.

315 years ago Russian monarch Peter the Great decided to take money from men who wore beards to instil European fashion upon his subjects. To make sure that they complied, a special metallic token was introduced, a beard seal that acted as a sort of receipt of payment to have a beard.
