The noble nest: Polenovo Estate, a painting come to life

120 years ago, there were no trees on the place where the Polenovo Estate now stands. The Russian artist Vasily Polenov did the same thing he did with canvases…he turned them into a work of art.

This year would have been Vasily Polenov’s 170th birthday. At the age of 50, he founded this estate in the Tula region, 80 miles from Moscow. This is where he felt happy.

In addition to the Polenovo Museum, there is also a church, a “craftsmen’s village” where artists can stay, and many other places. The museum is located on a park reserve which is ideal for walks and enjoying nature.
