St. Petersburg: The Northern Venice built on a bog

The former capital of Russia for two centuries, St. Petersburg isn’t a city – it’s a legend, a marvelous city whose beauty gives Paris a run for its money.

It’s the country’s northernmost city, a hub boasting more than a million inhabitants, a monument city built on a bog, Russia’s ‘Window on Europe’ and its largest port. People call St. Petersburg the Russian tourism capital.

The city is beautiful around the year, but If you plan your vacation there, is it better to choose the warm summer months, when you can enjoy not only the outstanding architecture but also dozens of events held in St. Petersburg from May to September.
