Drills of the Russian Arctic Brigade

The Arctic forces' aim is to protect Russia's Arctic borders, in light of increased NATO interest and activity in the region.

The special attention is paid to cooperation between the servicemen, firing and deployment process. A-1 snowmobile drivers are improving their skills in moving in conditions of deep snow.

In December 2015, the Russian military announced the formation of an Arctic Command with the aim of protecting Russia's Arctic borders, in light of increased NATO interest and activity in the region.

The new unified command, based in the Arkhangelsk region, includes the Northern Fleet, two artic-warfare brigades, and air force and air defence units.
