Peterhof Palace amazes with ballet, opera and scenes from Mayakovsky

The historic site marks the end of the fountain season with a bright multimedia show.

On the 12th of September the Peterhof Museum Reserve welcomed guests to a special multimedia show to mark the end of the fountain season.

Spectators who had gathered around the Grand Cascade with its towering Samson monument could view a video installation on the facade of the Grand Palace. The former tsarist residence, which lies 30 km south-west of St. Petersburg, is one of the centers of the festivities devoted to the Year of Literature, which is being celebrated in Russia in 2015. The installation used images from novels by Dostoyevsky, Pushkin and Gogol, and poems by Mayakovsky. The soundtrack highlights included passages from Borodin's Prince Igor and The Queen of Spades by Tchaikovsky. The video was accompanied by a performance of the Mariinsky Ballet.
