Russian volunteer journalist wounded in Syria

A Russian has received head and arm injuries in Syria, where he has been volunteering for an independent news agency, the agency said.

Sergei Berezhnoi, who is deputy chairman of the Belgorod Arbitration Court, had surgery at a military hospital after being wounded.

The Belgorod Arbitration Court confirmed the information to Interfax, adding that Berezhnoi remained outside Russia.

Berezhnoi has been deputy head of the court since November 2009.

According to media reports, he has spent five years in Abkhazia as a reconnaissance officer.

He is a winner of literary prizes.
