Karasin discusses situation on Georgian borders with Abkhazia, South Ossetia

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin has met with the co-chairmen of the Geneva Debates on Stability and Security in the South Caucasus to discuss prospects of the negotiating format, the next round of which is due in late March.

"Russian State Secretary, Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin met with cochairmen of the Geneva Debates on Stability and Security in the South Caucasus - EU Special Envoy Philippe Lefort, UN Representative Antti Turunen and OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Special Representative Andrii Deshchytsia on February 1," says a report published on the Russian Foreign Ministry website on Friday.

"The sides discussed the current status and prospects of the Geneva Debates, in particular, in the context of the next round scheduled for late March 2013. The meeting centered on the situation on the borders between Abkhazia and South Ossetia and Georgia, which has been relatively calm lately. They also spoke about the operation of regional incident prevention and response mechanisms," the ministry reported.

The interlocutors confirmed the common wish to assist in the achievement of concrete results in security and other areas at the Geneva consultations, the ministry said.
