The Bolshoi ballet will perform seven shows on tour in London

As part of its anniversary tour in summer 2013, Russia’s Bolshoi Ballet will perform seven shows at London’s Royal Opera House between 29 July and 17 August, according to a press release from the London theatre. 

The Bolshoi season at Covent Garden will open with a performance of Yuri Grigorovich’s Swan Lake. The ‘classical trio’ will also include his version of Sleeping Beauty and Marius Petipa’s La Bayadere.

The programme, which consists of three one-act performances, will include the British premier of Yuri Posokhov's Classical Symphony, a new version of the Rite of Spring, which the Bolshoi Theatre commissioned the great British contemporary choreographer Wayne Mcgregor was commissioned by the Bolshoi Theatre to mark the 100th anniversary of Igor Stravinsky’s classic version of the ballet, George Balanchine’s Diamonds will also be performed.   

In addition London viewers will see the British premier of the ballet the Flames of Paris, interpreted by Alexei Ratmansky. This Russian choreographer, formerly artistic director of the Bolshoi ballet, is now mainly based in America, and in 2013 he will also lay on performances of several ballets for Covent Garden’s own repertoire.
