UK to spend $157,000 to attract Russian tourists

Britain, in conjunction with Russian tourist agencies, will spend a total of $157,000 on advertising the UK as a tourist destination in Russia this year, reported Patricia Yates of VisitBritain. “We’re planning advertising on the internet and other platforms, as well as cross-marketing promotion,” she said.

Yates also noted that up to 15 percent of Russians travel  to the UK to learn English.

According to the British Embassy in Moscow, in 2011 the number of visas issued to Russians increased by 20 percent from the previous year and 39 percent from 2009. By 2020, Britain plans to increase the number of Russian tourists by 75 percent to 370,000 annually.
