U.S. Congress ban on cooperation with Rosoboronexport didn't affect Afghan contract - Isaikin

Rosoboronexport is fulfilling an option to supply Afghanistan with 12 Mi-171 helicopters in addition to 21 helicopters supplied previously, Rosoboronexport General Director Anatoly Isaikin said on Wednesday.

"We concluded an option to supply two and then 10 more helicopters. This option remains valid regardless of the fact that the Congress banned the U.S. military department from cooperating with Rosoboronexport," Isaikin said.

Isaikin said that the issues the Congress had were Rosoboronexport's cooperation with Syria and protection of the U.S. manufacturers.

"Regardless of this ban, the option to supply 12 helicopters is being fulfilled and will be fulfilled," Isaikin said. The contract to supply 21 helicopters to Afghanistan has been successfully fulfilled, he said.

"We went through this many times and it doesn't affect the volume of cooperation. It's rather a political component," Isaikin said.
