Three people, including Bolshoi Theater soloist Pavel Dmitrichenko, have been detained under an investigation into an acid attack on Bolshoi Theater Ballet Director Sergei Filin, the Interior Ministry said.
Yury Zarutsky, who is suspected of committing the attack itself, and a driver suspected of complicity in the crime were detained earlier on Tuesday.
Investigators are inclined to presume that Bolshoi Theater soloist Pavel Dmitrichenko ordered an acid attack on Ballet Director Sergei Filin, while Yury Zarutsky is believed to have committed the attack itself.
"A preliminary theory holds it that Dmitrichenko ordered the attack on Filin and Zarutsky committed it," a law enforcement source told Interfax.
Andrei Lipatov, the third man detained under the investigation into the attack on Filin, is a driver who delivered Zarutsky to the crime scene, he said.
Lipatov himself is claiming that he was unaware of the preparations for the attack, he said.
All three men have been detained for at least 48 hours under Russian Criminal Procedure Code Article 91, the source said.
Filin suffered burns to the face and eyes in an acid attack on January 17. The preliminary investigation showed that Filin was attacked with sulphuric acid. Filin was hospitalized with burns to face and eye cornea at the 36th hospital, where he had a series of eye operations.
Filin was released in a couple of weeks and went to Germany for rehabilitation, where he had more surgery.
The attack is being investigated on counts of inflicting bodily harm, part 1 of article 111 of the Russian criminal code. Police link the attack to Filin\'s professional work. Employees of the Bolshoi Theater have been questioned as part of the investigation.
