Civil Platform leader Mikhail Prokhorov does not doubt the ability of his party to pass the 5 percent election threshold for the State Duma.
"We support some clauses of the bill. The demand to bring back single-seat electoral district winners to the parliament was a part of my election program. We clearly support that. Resumption of the electoral district vote will bring talented people to the State Duma, including non-party members. And that is wonderful," he said in an interview published on the party website on Thursday.
"We do not support the 5 percent election threshold though. We think it should be reduced to 3 percent although we have absolutely no doubt that we can pass the 5 percent threshold. There is nothing to speak about," Prokhorov added.
He also thinks that election blocs should be permitted to bring candidates of small parties to the parliament.
"I believe single-seat electoral district winners will brighten up the State Duma. I think we can prepare 150-180 if not 225 bright candidates by the State Duma election," he said.
Prokhorov said his party had not estimated how many single-seat electoral district candidates they could bring to the State Duma.
