Moscow's OperaMania goes to Australia

Moscow's Novaya Opera will bring its latest project, OperaMania, to seven Australian cities in April. This mix of opera classics was specially devised for the tour, and includes arias and duets from the works of Mozart, Rossini, Bellini, Verdi, Tchaikovsky, Bizet, Puccini and other great composers, along with several ballet numbers.

Founded in 1991, Novaya Opera is a comparatively young theatre, but in just over 20 years, it has joined the Bolshoi and Mariinsky in the ranks of Russia's finest opera companies.

"Novaya Opera will be offering thousands of Australians the chance to experience the miracle of the highest art of musical theatre, as performed by Russian artists," said Simon Crean, Australia’s Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and the Arts.

Mr Crean added that the tour  "will make a significant contribution to strengthening human contact and friendly relations between Russia and Australia."

Gennady Pollak, the producer of tour organisers Global Market Communications, said:  "We’re certain that we will not fail the high expectations of the Australian public."
