Liberal opposition pickets memory of Margaret Thatcher in St. Petersburg

On the day of Margaret Thatcher’s funeral, Russia’s liberal opposition has held a demonstration in her memory in St. Petersburg.

Members of the unregistered RPR-PARNAS political party, which advocates a liberal agenda in opposition to the current government’s policies, held up placards with the Iron Lady’s famous quotes across from the U.K.’s consulate in downtown St. Petersburg.

“Russia needs politicians like Margaret Thatcher,” RPR-PARNAS said in a statement on its website. No incidents were reported at the demonstration.

Meanwhile, no Russian officials attended Margaret Thatcher’s funeral in the U.K.
