Court rejects Navalny's appeal of illicit deadline in Kirovles material familiarization

The Kirov Regional Court denied an appeal on Tuesday of Alexei Navalny's defense of the illicit deadline in familiarization with the Kirovles materials, an Interfax correspondent reported.

"To uphold the Leninsky District Court resolution and to dismiss the appeal of the defense," Judge Albert Prytkov said.

The defense asked to send the materials to the Moscow Basmanny Court and to pronounce the decision of limiting the period of familiarization with the case materials illegal.

Navalny's lawyer Olga Mikhailova told Interfax they had appealed the decision of the Kirov Leninsky District Court that limited the period of the defense's familiarization with the case materials.

Mikhailova said earlier the defense lacked time to study the materials.

The investigation believes that Navalny, while acting as an advisor to the Kirov region governor, had conspired with Vyatka Timber Company Director Pyotr Ofitserov and Kirovles General Director Vyacheslav Opalev to organize misappropriation of Kirovles property.

Investigators think that over 10,000 cubic meters of timber belonging to Kirovles was stolen in May-September 2009, causing the Kirov region budget's losses of over 16 million rubles (about $507, 000).

The case was handled by the main investigative department of the Russian Investigative Committee. Navalny was charged with organizing misappropriation and Ofitserov was charged with complicity.
