Compatriots who abandon their foreign citizenship may enjoy Russia's simplified naturalization

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the government to elaborate and submit to the State Duma a law that simplifies naturalization of compatriots - Russian speakers wishing to take permanent residence in Russia on the condition they abandon their foreign citizenship.

"To elaborate and submit to the State Duma a draft federal law to simplify the procedure and to reduce the period of processing of Russian naturalization requests from compatriots - Russian speakers whose direct relatives in the ascending line lived on the territory of Russia and the USSR on the condition of their resettlement to Russia for permanent residence and abandonment of their foreign citizenship," say Putin's instructions given after the Direct Line with Russians.

The ordinance shall be fulfilled by September 15.
