Russia's alerted aerospace troops to tackle tasks of repelling air attack

Aerospace Defense Troops, strategic and military-transport aviation, alerted Monday morning in line with a resolution of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, are set at ready to carry out designated tasks, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Gen. Valery Gerasimov has announced.

"The president of the Russian Federation put forward the task of checking the state of combat readiness of troops and their capability of fulfilling set tasks in varying conditions. With this purpose, Aerospace Defense Troops, strategic and military-transport aviation, the air force and air defense of the Western Military District were alerted this morning under a decision of the defense minister," Gerasimov said during an intercom conference on Monday.

He said that the command bodies, military units and formations have been brought to combat readiness and have started fulfilling combat training tasks to repel an aerospace attack.

"The check involves 8,700 people, 185 combat aircraft and 240 armored combat vehicles," Gerasimov said.
