The Russian English-language news channel, Russia Today (RT), has become the first in the world to reach one billion views on YouTube, RT's press office said in a statement.

"A billion hits - that's a stunning result… This is an amazing achievement for a Russian news channel - to become a major provider of news in the space that reaches the most important, young audience," RT's Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan said.

"Very few of our partners can boast a billion video views, and RT will be the first news channel to get to this number," YouTube's Vice President of Marketing Danielle Tiedt said.

According to RT's information, as of June 3, RT had 1,001,117,873 views on YouTube.
