President Vladimir Putin said during a meeting with the personnel of Russia Today television on Tuesday that he and his wife Lyudmila had not been married in church and that their decision to divorce was mutual.
The president and first lady decided to "honestly tell the truth" to the nation, Putin said.
"That is a much more correct form of conduct than trying to hide something," he added.
On June 6, in his first televised appearance with his wife in months, Putin overwhelms the nation with news about their divorce after 29 years in marriage.
