Russia's prominent economist Sergei Guriyev has confirmed that he plans to help write the economic part of the election program for opposition activist Alexei Navalny as a candidate for mayor of Moscow.

Russia's prominent economist Sergei Guriyev has confirmed that he plans to help write the economic part of the election program for opposition activist Alexei Navalny as a candidate for mayor of Moscow.

Earlier, Navalny said Guriyev would help him write an economic section of the program.

"Navalny never lies. It's true, I will take part in writing the program," Guriev told Interfax on Friday.

Navalny said at a meeting earlier on Friday of a regional branch of the Republican Party of Russia-Party of People's Freedom (RPR-PARNAS) that is expected to put him forward as a mayoral candidate: "Very soon we will propound our own, detailed development program for the city. By the way, Sergei Guriev has agreed to work on the economic part of the program."
