A supposed government report on Wednesday that Vladimir Yakunin had resigned as chief executive of Russian Railways (RZD) was a fake, the prime minister's office said.
"The information on Yakunin's resignation that had the appearance of an official report from the press service of the government contained grammatical errors and had been sent from a forged email address that was made to look like that for the official mailing list of the press service of the government," Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev's spokeswoman, Natalya Timakova, told Interfax.
She said the Federal Protective Service and Federal Security Service "are involved in trying to find out the source of the information on Yakunin's supposed resignation.
