Joint efforts of the Syrian authorities and the opposition in the suppression of terrorists and extremists should be an item on the agenda of the Geneva-2 international peace conference for Syria, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"I would like to call attention to the final declaration G8 leaders published in Lough Erne last month; its Syrian section contains a direct appeal to the government and the opposition to pool efforts for ousting terrorists and extremists from Syria. In my opinion, this task should be a major item on the agenda of the proposed international conference," he said before a meeting with Syrian Deputy Prime Minister Qadri Jamil in Moscow.

"Naturally, it is also necessary to work out measures for implementing all provisions of the Geneva Communique without exception," the minister said.

He said he would discuss the aforesaid matters with Jamil.
