Yandex co-owner Segalovich thought to be alive, in a coma

Ilya Segalovich, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Yandex NV, Russia's largest search engine, might still be alive and is currently in a coma.

"Ilya's family said he had died, but [yesterday] morning information was received that Ilya was on a life-support machine. We're waiting for official information and not commenting for now," a Yandex representative, Ochir Mandzhikov, told Interfax.

Yandex said on Thursday morning that Segalovich, 48, had Segalovich died suddenly on July 24.

Segalovich had been diagnosed with a treatable form of cancer and was responding well to treatment, before unexpectedly succumbing to complications, the company said.

Segalovich sat on the Yandex board of directors and owned 2.5 percent of the company.
