The Yaroslavl Regional Court has granted a prosecutor's demand that Vladimir Kara-Murza be disqualified as a candidate to the regional legislature from the RPR-PARNAS party due to his dual citizenship, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office reported.
Law enforcement agencies found out earlier that, in addition to holding Russian citizenship, Kara-Murza also possesses citizenship of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and therefore, in line with federal law, cannot run for public office.

RPR-PARNAS's campaign staff in Yaroslavl told Interfax the court ruling was quite predictable. "We were prepared for this, and Vladimir Kara-Murza's disqualification will not be a blow to us," a campaign spokesperson told Interfax.
RPR-PARNAS's ticket in the elections to the Yaroslavl Regional Duma will be led by Boris Nemtsov, who said earlier on Facebook that, if the party wins seats in Yaroslavl, he will move there and will personally work in the regional legislature. RPR-PARNAS's ticket was registered by the regional elections commission on August 8.
Kara-Murza is a Russian TV journalist and a member of the Opposition Coordination Council.
The elections to the Yaroslavl Regional Duma will be held on September 8.
