Up to 2 million illegal migrants may be currently residing in Russia - FMS Council head

Federal Migration Service Public Council head Vladimir Volokh estimates the number of illegal labor migrants at approximately two million

The number of illegal immigrants in Russia may currently amount to 2 million, Federal Migration Service Public Council head Vladimir Volokh said.

"As an expert, I estimate the number of illegal labor migrants at approximately two million," he told a press conference in Moscow on Wednesday.

"We recruit nearly 1.5 million labor migrants each year, and about one million have been issued documents and officially employed by individuals," Volokh said.

There must be labor migration quotas, he said, adding that the share of the unskilled labor force must be reduced although it could not be brought to zero.
