Sobyanin opposed to removal of any candidate running for Moscow mayor from race

Acting Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said he was opposed to removing any candidate registered for the Moscow mayoral elections from the race.

Acting Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said he was opposed to removing any candidate registered for the Moscow mayoral elections from the race.

"I have said repeatedly that I think it is necessary to do everything possible so that those candidates, who have been registered, make it to the finish line," Sobyanin said in an interview with Ekho Moskvy (Echo of Moscow) radio station on Thursday.

"It is not necessary to make any jerks. It is not necessary to remove anyone from the campaign. It seems to me this will only damage," Sobyanin said.

Violations in the Moscow election campaign should not be of fatal character, Sobyanin said.

As of now, it is not necessary to cancel "the municipal filter" at the Moscow mayoral elections, Sobyanin said. "If the municipal filter is cancelled, I think there would be 60-70 candidates now and elections would turn into mockery," he said.
