A police officer has shot down a bear in a street of Nakhodka in the Russian Far East as its aggressive behavior posed a danger to passers-by.

The use of the service weapon by the officer was recognized to be justified, the press service of the Interior Ministry department for Primorye territory reported on Sunday.

The authorities are now trying to find out how the animal appeared in the city.

The report says that the bear was discovered and shot in the area of Kirov Street following a telephone call from a local resident.
