The Russian coat of arms becomes a fashion symbol

The Presidential Executive Office of the Russian Federation has noted that watches and clocks bearing state symbols — which are sold in kiosks located in the Kremlin, State Duma, Government of the Russian Federation, Federation Council and in buildings of other federal executive offices — have been in high demand recently.

Sales have increased sharply by nearly 25 percent this summer, according to the newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets. Most often, officials have been buying inexpensive Japanese quartz watches, which each come with a gold-plated case, a calendar and a voluminous coat of arms of the Russian Federation imprinted on the face. The prices for these timepieces range from 3,000–5,000 rubles ($90–150).

Also of interest are chronometers that bear a picture of the Russian flag and display time in multiple time zones. Small desk clocks in the form of a column are also popular souvenirs. The three faces of the rotating cube on the top of this column display the emblem of the Russian Federation, a map of Russia and the Moscow Kremlin.
