All the sides interested in a political settlement for Syria may be invited to Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told a Monday press conference in Moscow.
"Russia has been staying in touch with all [Syrian] opposition groups without an exception in the recent years and we will carry on our efforts to try to convince them that there is no alternative to an international conference," he said.
"If our contacts express that this [conference] may help, then we do not rule out the possibility of an invitation to Moscow of all who are interested in peace and a political settlement in Syria and reject the military scenario," the minister said.
"It is still necessary to start a dialogue between all Syrians and I am confident that, in the end, the political settlement will be the only final goal of this process," Lavrov stressed.
He also said he had agreed with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Mualem that they must "facilitate the soonest return of UN inspectors for completing the investigation into each case of chemical weapons use."
