Russian investigators have started a probe into the illegal transfer of a Russian girl adopted to the United States to another family.

"The Russian Investigative Committee has begun the procedural check over the illegal actions regarding the Russian girl adopted by a U.S. family. The pre-investigation check of information reported by mass media outlets that a 13-year-old Russian girl adopted by the Barnes family in the United States had been illegally transferred to another family," Russian Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin told Interfax on Monday.

According to preliminary information, after the mother's death, the 7-year-old Russian girl was adopted by a family from the U.S. in the state of Illinois. When the girl was 13, the adoptive parents gave her to the Barnes family residing in Texas.

"New parents, having failed to cope with the psychological problems of the teenager, have posted a notice on the Internet and gave the girl to strangers, who were to take care of the child. At that, there are grounds to suppose that the new guardians have repeatedly come into the view of law enforcement authorities on suspicion of committing sex crimes against their other adoptive children," Markin said.

"The Investigative Committee intends to request all necessary documents and materials from the U.S. side in order to determine all circumstances of the incident in the framework of the procedural check," Markin said.

"The Russian investigators have firm a determination to hold a comprehensive, independent and objective inspection of the mentioned facts of violations of Russian children's rights. The procedural decision will be made on the results of the inspection," Markin said.
