Army Gen. Valery Gerasimov, Chief of Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, and Gen. Nicholas Houghton, Chief of the Defense Staff of the British Armed Forces, are discussing bilateral cooperation and the situation in different parts of the world, including Syria, Afghanistan and Iran.

Gerasimov said a meeting between the Russian Defense Minister and the British Secretary of State for Defense in March served as "a good stimulus" for expanding military cooperation between the two countries.

Gerasimov said that Houghton and he plan "to discuss some aspects of bilateral military cooperation and to exchange opinions on the situation in different parts of the world, especially in Syria and Afghanistan."

Houghton agreed with Gerasimov, noting that he expected the negotiations would enable the two to deepen their mutual understanding and cooperation.
