An assistant to the Dutch Ambassador in Moscow was beaten by unknown assailants in his apartment early on Wednesday morning, a source from the police department told Interfax.

An assistant to the Dutch Ambassador in Moscow was beaten by unknown assailants in his apartment early on Wednesday morning, a source from the police department told Interfax.

He said the Dutch ambassador's assistant told the police that unknown people had broken into his apartment on Povarskaya Street and battered him.

The assailants wrote LGBT and drew a heart on the wall of the victim's apartment, the source said.

In his words, the assistant did not ask for medical attendance. A police team is working on the incident scene.

The Moscow city police department confirmed to Interfax that a foreign citizen had been attacked but did not reveal his identity.

"An investigation is in progress, details of the incident are being found out," the department press service said.
