The Russian Defense Ministry has received an invitation from NATO countries to take part in Exercise Steadfast Jazz 2013 at the level of representatives, and a Russian delegation will take part in them, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Wednesday.

Exercise Steadfast Jazz 2013 will take place in Poland and the Baltic countries on November 2-9.

"We have received such a proposal, and a Russian military delegation will take part in it," Shoigu told journalists following a NATO-Russia Council meeting in Brussels.

Over 80 military attaches accredited in Moscow took part in the Russian-Belarusian exercise West 2013, Shoigu said. They watched Russian and Belarusian armed forces units training an operation against a group of militants.

"We plan to continue such transparency measures in the future as well. Nevertheless, we do not tie Russia's decision on transparency to analogous actions on NATO's part," he said.

At the same time, Russia is moving toward more openness and confidence, "which we are lacking, especially regarding missile defense," he said.
