Roscosmos has announced an open tender for the development of a manned new generation spacecraft, for which 9.5 billion rubles ($299 million) is expected to be provided during the period until 2016, says a report posted on the state purchase contracts site on Thursday.

Bids to take part in the tender are accepted from October 23, 2013 through November 22, 2013. The tender results are expected to be announced on November 22.

According to earlier reports, the rocket and space corporation (RKK) Energiya has developed a technical project of a new generation manned transport system (PTK NP), which has been evaluated by experts. Energiya President and General Constructor Vitaly Lopota said the project has generally received a positive evaluation.

"The main function of PTK NP is flights to the Moon. It can also provide transportation and technical services to orbital stations on the near-earth orbit and make autonomous flights for the purpose of conducting space experiments and research," Lopota said.

Lopota gave the following characteristics of PTK NP for flights to the Moon: initial mass - up to 20 tonnes, crew - four people, autonomous manned flight duration - up to ten days, flights on the Lunar Orbital Station - up to 180 days.
