On Oct. 22, Scorpions vocalist Klaus Meine paid a phone call to Alexei Anichkin — a patient at First Moscow Hospice who had long dreamt of going to one of the legendary band’s concerts. Meine personally played the song “Holiday” for Anichkin.

According to the "Faith" website established in support of hospices, the German singer and the Russian patient communicated through interpreters. Meine told Anichkin he was very pleased the group is remembered and loved in Russia, and that he was upset he could not invite him to the Scorpions concert at Moscow’s Crocus City Hall.

“Alexei has cancer; he does not get up, and even breathing is hard for him. His unrealizable dream became a reality in less than a day: Five thousand people had the children’s funds manager Lida Moniava’s letters of request reposted. They got everyone involved, even those who are remotely connected with the group’s concert in Moscow,” states the website.

When Meine sang “Holiday” into the phone, all 20 people present during the conversation were crying. Anichkin tried to sing along, but he did not have enough oxygen.

"Alexei is just so happy; he says that it is all incredible, incredible that the Scorpions sang for him alone. Incredible, that five thousand people tried to fulfill his dream in one night," wrote Moniava.

The 29-year-old Alexei Anichkin has been a patient at the First Moscow Hospice for more than a month. Before the onset of his disease, Anichkin graduated from St. Tikhon Humanitarian University and worked as a history teacher at a boarding school for orphans. The hospice has a tradition, according to which they try to fulfill their patients’ wishes. Alexei’s dream was to meet the Scorpions.
