The process of destroying Syrian chemical weapons is moving successfully and can realistically be completed by mid 2014, the Russian Foreign Ministry has reported.
"We believe the deadline given to Syria to destroy its chemical weapons arsenals by mid 2014 is quite realistic, of course, on condition that it is provided with effective international assistance," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said in an interview with Bloomberg.
"An important issue is close fulfillment by Syria's armed opposition of the requirements outlined in Resolution 2118 of the UN Security Council, primarily regarding the comprehensive assistance to the staff of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the UN in the fulfillment of their mission in Syria and ensuring unimpeded access to the facilities," he said.
